• Description:

  This Genuine Ford Motorcraft accessory drive belt tensioner assembly maintains proper tension on the serpentine belt driving the alternator, water pump, power steering, and air-conditioning compressor on the 4.0L SOHC V6 engine. It fits 2001-2011 Ford Explorer, Explorer Sport Trac, and Ranger, along with the Mercury Mountaineer, built with the 4.0L single-overhead-cam V6, and carries Ford engineering number 1L2Z-6B209-AA. The spring-loaded tensioner keeps constant load on the belt so the accessories stay driven without slip or squeal. A worn tensioner commonly produces a chirping or squealing belt on cold start, a rattling or knocking noise from the front of the engine, belt wobble or misalignment, accelerated belt wear, or a seized pulley bearing that can throw the belt. The damper spring and pulley bearing wear as a unit, so Ford specifies replacing the complete assembly and inspecting the belt condition at the same time. This Motorcraft unit restores factory spring tension and pulley alignment to original specification. Relieve tension with the proper serpentine belt tool before removing the belt, confirm correct belt routing on reassembly, and verify the pulley rotates smoothly and true once installed.
