• Description:

  This Genuine Ford retaining ring, part number YL8Z-3B457-AA, secures the front wheel hub and bearing assembly within the steering knuckle, locking the pressed bearing in position against the thrust of cornering and braking loads. It fits 2001 through 2012 Ford Escape and 2005 through 2011 Mercury Mariner front wheel bearing installations. Because this snap-style ring holds the bearing captive, a missing, distorted, or improperly seated ring can allow the bearing to walk in its bore, producing a cyclic wheel-end humming or growling that changes with speed, play or looseness at the hub, or eventual bearing failure. Ford supplies this ring as the correct service retainer whenever the front wheel bearing is replaced, and a new ring should be fitted each time the bearing is disturbed rather than reusing the old one. Confirm the ring is fully seated in its groove so the bearing is properly retained before returning the vehicle to service.
