This is a genuine Ford engine oil filter housing cover O-ring for the 6.0L Power Stroke diesel used in F-250, F-350 and E-Series trucks across the 2003 to 2010 range. The seal fits between the oil filter cap and the filter housing on top of the engine, keeping the cartridge filter chamber pressurized and leak-free during operation. Because the housing is opened at every oil change, this O-ring is a routine renewal item: it should be replaced rather than reused whenever the cap is removed, since a flattened or nicked seal will weep oil or draw air into the lube circuit. Made to Ford material and dimensional specifications, it resists hot engine oil and the temperature cycling of a hard-working diesel. Installing the correct factory seal restores a proper sealing surface and avoids the dripping and false low-oil readings that come from a tired aftermarket ring.
