  This is the genuine Ford serpentine belt tensioner for the 6.0L Power Stroke turbo diesel. The tensioner uses a spring-loaded arm and pulley to apply constant tension to the serpentine accessory belt, keeping the belt properly loaded so it can drive the alternator, water pump, power steering pump and other accessories without slipping. It fits 2003 to 2007 F-250, F-350, F-450 and F-550 Super Duty, Excursion and E-Series with the 6.0L diesel. A worn or failing tensioner is a common cause of belt squeal or chirp, belt flutter, premature belt wear, a rattle or grinding from the pulley bearing, and in advanced cases belt slippage that under-drives the accessories. The internal spring weakens and the pulley bearing wears as the unit ages, so the tensioner is a routine service item on these engines. Installing a new genuine tensioner restores correct belt tension and a smooth-running pulley. Replacement involves relieving belt tension with the tensioner arm, slipping the belt off, unbolting the old tensioner, fitting the new unit, and routing the belt per the engine diagram before releasing tension.
