The O-ring is a single-use sealing item that should be renewed whenever the joint is opened, since the original takes a set and a reused ring will weep oil or let air into the circuit. Built to Ford material and dimensional specifications, it resists hot oil and matches the factory groove so it seats fully. Fitting the correct seal restores a clean, leak-free joint. Lubricate the O-ring lightly on assembly, seat the mating component squarely so the seal is not pinched, torque to specification, and verify there are no oil leaks and that pressure holds after the engine is restarted and warmed.
