  This is the genuine Ford engine oil filter housing cap, equivalent to Motorcraft EC781, for the 6.0L and 6.4L Power Stroke turbo diesel. It fits 2003 to 2010 F-250, F-350, F-450 and F-550 Super Duty, the Excursion and E-Series equipped with the 6.0L or 6.4L diesel. This engine uses a serviceable cartridge oil filter that sits in the oil filter housing, and this threaded cap closes the top of the housing and seals it during operation. The cap is supplied with its sealing O-ring. The cap and its seal are an important part of the oil system on this engine because the housing works with an anti-drainback arrangement that keeps oil in the bowl for proper startup oil pressure, so a cracked cap or a worn cap seal can cause an oil leak at the top of the housing or contribute to a hard-start condition. The cap seal should be renewed and the cap inspected for cracks whenever the oil is serviced, and a damaged cap should be replaced rather than reused. Installing the correct genuine cap and O-ring restores a reliable seal at the filter housing.
