This is the genuine Ford engine crankshaft rear main seal for the 6.0L and 6.4L Power Stroke turbo diesel. The seal fits at the rear of the crankshaft where it exits the block to the flywheel, sealing the back of the engine so oil stays inside and does not leak onto the bellhousing and clutch or torque converter. It fits 2003 to 2010 F-250, F-350, F-450 and F-550 Super Duty, the Excursion in earlier years and E-350, covering both the 6.0L and 6.4L diesel. The rear main seal is replaced when oil leaks from the back of the engine, when the seal hardens or wears, and whenever the transmission, clutch or flywheel is removed and the seal is found leaking or as preventive service. Symptoms of a failed rear main seal include oil dripping from the bellhousing area, oil on the back of the block, and a slow but persistent leak that can foul the clutch. Installing a new genuine seal restores an oil-tight seal at the rear of the engine. Replacement requires removing the transmission and flywheel or flexplate to access the seal, carefully removing the old seal without scoring the crank, and installing the new seal squarely to the correct depth. Confirm engine and model year against your VIN before ordering. Genuine Ford construction ensures correct lip design, diameter and depth for a durable rear main seal on the Power Stroke diesel.
