This is the genuine Ford engine oil filter adapter gasket, the upper gasket that seals the oil cooler adapter, for the 6.0L Power Stroke turbo diesel. The gasket seals the large joint where the oil filter and cooler adapter meet, keeping engine oil and coolant in their correct passages within the oil cooler assembly. It fits 2003 to 2010 F-250, F-350, F-450 and F-550 Super Duty, the Excursion and E-350 with the 6.0L diesel. This gasket is replaced whenever the oil cooler or filter adapter is serviced, a very common repair on this engine because the oil cooler is prone to plugging, and when a leak develops at the adapter joint. Symptoms that lead to oil cooler service include rising oil and coolant temperatures, EGR cooler problems, and oil or coolant cross-contamination, and the adapter gaskets are renewed as part of that work because they should not be reused. Installing a fresh genuine gasket restores a clean, leak-free seal at the adapter. Replacement is part of oil cooler service and requires careful cleaning of the sealing surfaces, correct gasket placement, and torque to specification, along with the related lower and O-ring seals.
