• Description:

  This genuine Ford Motorcraft engine cooling fan clutch is the thermostatic viscous drive for the mechanical cooling fan on 2003 to 2010 Ford 6.0L Power Stroke turbo-diesel applications, including F-250, F-350, F-450 and F-550 Super Duty pickups, the Excursion, and E-250, E-350 and E-450 vans, excluding the snow-plow-package fan. It couples the large engine fan to the water-pump drive and varies fan speed with radiator-outlet and underhood temperature, engaging for maximum airflow through the radiator, intercooler and condenser under load or towing and freewheeling when cool to reduce noise and drag. A failing clutch on the 6.0L diesel commonly shows up as coolant temperatures climbing while towing or on grades, a loud continuous fan roar that never quiets after warm-up, weak air conditioning at idle, silicone fluid weeping from the clutch body, or a fan that turns with little resistance when hot. Because the 6.0L carries heavy cooling demands, a slipping clutch that cannot lock the fan allows overheating that can damage the EGR cooler, oil cooler, radiator or head gaskets, while a seized clutch robs power and roars constantly. Replace the clutch as a unit, torque the fan to the drive flange evenly, verify proper rotation and shroud clearance, and inspect the water-pump bearing, fan and belt during the job. Installing the correct Motorcraft fan clutch restores reliable, temperature-controlled cooling for the Power Stroke diesel.
