• Description:

  This genuine Ford automatic transmission oil cooler thermostat, part number 7L3Z-7H322-A, is the thermal control valve that regulates transmission fluid flow through the auxiliary oil cooler on 2005-2008 Ford F-150 trucks with the 4.2L V6, 4.6L V8, or 5.4L V8. The valve blocks flow to the cooler when the fluid is cold so the transmission reaches operating temperature quickly, then opens as the fluid warms to route it through the cooler and hold the fluid within its ideal temperature band. Correct fluid temperature control protects the clutches and friction material, extends fluid life, and prevents both cold-shift harshness and heat-related damage. When the thermostat sticks closed the transmission can run hot, overheat while towing, and trigger temperature warnings; when it sticks open the fluid may never reach proper temperature, causing sluggish or delayed cold shifts and long-term wear. Ford notes this valve is included with the pressure tube, and this OEM part restores factory-calibrated cooler flow. It supersedes earlier 4L3Z-7H322-AA.
