  This is a genuine Ford engine camshaft, Ford catalog name Camshaft, for the driver's side (left-hand) cylinder head, fitting 2005-2014 F-150 and related applications with the 4.6L 3-valve and 5.4L modular V8 engines. The camshaft rides in the cylinder head and, driven by the timing chain, opens and closes the valves in time with the crankshaft; on these overhead-cam modular engines it also works with the variable cam timing phaser and the roller finger followers. A worn, scored, or damaged camshaft, or one with failed lobes or worn journals, causes rough running, ticking or knocking from the top of the engine, loss of power, misfires, and cam-timing or VCT diagnostic trouble codes. Buyers often replace the camshaft after phaser or timing-chain failures, oil starvation, or high mileage.
