• Description:

  This is the genuine Ford differential pinion oil seal for heavy-duty applications including the 2005 to 2016 F-450 and F-550 Super Duty and F53 motorhome chassis. The seal fits around the pinion at the front of the differential, where the driveshaft yoke connects, sealing the pinion shaft so gear lubricant stays inside the axle housing and contaminants stay out. A pinion seal is replaced when it has hardened, cracked or worn so that gear oil weeps or runs from the front of the differential, when the seal was disturbed during driveshaft or yoke service, or when a leak is found during inspection. Symptoms of a failing pinion seal include gear-oil residue and dripping at the nose of the differential, oil flung onto the underbody behind the seal, and over time a low lubricant level that can damage the ring and pinion if ignored. Installing a fresh genuine seal stops the leak and protects the gear oil and bearings. Replacement involves marking and removing the driveshaft, holding the pinion to remove the yoke nut, withdrawing the yoke, prying out the old seal, driving in the new seal squarely to the correct depth, and reassembling with the pinion nut torqued or preload set per procedure.
