This genuine Ford transfer case drive chain, cataloged by Ford as Chain - Transfer Drive, transmits torque between the input and output shafts inside the transfer case so the front driveline receives power in four-wheel-drive operation. It fits 2005-2016 Ford F-250, F-350, F-450 and F-550 Super Duty trucks equipped with a part-time four-wheel-drive transfer case. Over high mileage the steel link chain stretches and wears against the sprockets, producing a rattle or clunk on acceleration, a slight driveline shudder, or a chain-slap noise that changes with throttle; severe wear can let the chain skip and cause intermittent loss of front drive. Replacing a stretched chain during a transfer case rebuild restores proper tension and quiet, reliable four-wheel-drive engagement. Installation requires removing the transfer case and separating the case halves, so it is typically serviced together with a new case gasket or sealant, fresh transfer case fluid and inspection of the sprockets and bearings.
