• Description:

  This is a genuine Motorcraft air conditioning compressor with clutch, the belt-driven pump at the heart of the climate system that pressurizes and circulates refrigerant so the vehicle can produce cold air. The engine drives the clutch pulley, and when the air conditioning is switched on the electromagnetic clutch engages the compressor to compress low-pressure refrigerant vapor and send it on to the condenser. It fits Ford E-Series Econoline full-size vans, covering E-150, E-250, E-350 and E-450 models built through the later production years with the gas V8 and V10 engines. Symptoms of a failing compressor include no cold air from the vents, a loud grinding, growling, or squealing from the front of the engine when the system engages, a clutch that will not engage or that cycles rapidly, or a seized pulley that can throw or smoke the accessory belt. Metal contamination from an internally failed compressor is common, so the system should be flushed and the accumulator or drier and the orifice tube or expansion device replaced at the same time to keep debris from destroying the new unit. This Motorcraft compressor arrives with the clutch and pulley assembled. Evacuate and recharge the system to the correct refrigerant and oil specification after installation, and confirm the belt and tensioner are sound so the new compressor is not overloaded.
