This Genuine Ford shift interlock solenoid is the brake-shift interlock actuator that locks the gear selector in Park until the driver presses the brake pedal, a safety device that prevents the transmission from being moved out of Park without the brake applied. When energized through the brake circuit it releases the shifter so it can leave Park. It fits 2006-2010 Ford Explorer and Mercury Mountaineer. Drivers replace this solenoid when the shifter becomes stuck in Park and will not release even with the brake pressed, when the lever frees only intermittently, or when the interlock buzzes or fails to click. A failed interlock solenoid is a common cause of a no-shift-out-of-park condition and can strand the vehicle.
