  • Description:

This genuine Ford switch monitors refrigerant pressure in the air conditioning system's high side and sends that signal to the powertrain control module, which uses it to cycle the A/C compressor clutch on and off, control cooling fan speed, and shut the compressor down if system pressure climbs outside a safe operating range. It fits the 2006-2012 Fusion, Milan, and MKZ built with the 2.3L, 2.5L, and 3.0L Duratec engines, where it threads into the high-pressure line near the condenser or compressor discharge fitting. Drivers usually need this switch after the air conditioning starts blowing warm intermittently, especially in stop-and-go traffic or on hot days when system pressure rises, or after the compressor clutch stops engaging altogether even though refrigerant charge and belt condition are otherwise normal. A failed or drifting switch can also cause the electric cooling fan to run at the wrong speed for the actual system pressure, leading to occasional overheating symptoms that seem unrelated to the air conditioning at first. Because the switch reports directly to the engine control system, a fault here frequently sets a stored diagnostic trouble code for the A/C pressure switch circuit, which is the most reliable way to confirm this component before replacing it. This is strictly a pressure-sensing switch on the refrigerant side of the system, not a vacuum-operated switch, so it should not be confused with vacuum-controlled HVAC components elsewhere on these platforms. Replacement is a simple unbolt-and-unplug procedure at the fitting once the system has been safely recovered and depressurized by a qualified technician; do not attempt to remove the switch while the system still holds refrigerant pressure. After installation, the system must be evacuated and properly recharged to Ford specification before normal air conditioning operation resumes.
