This Motorcraft brake master cylinder reservoir cap seals the brake fluid reservoir on 2006-2012 Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan, Lincoln MKZ, and Lincoln Zephyr models built with 2.5L, 3.0L, and 3.5L engines, protecting the DOT brake fluid from moisture, dirt, and airborne contamination. Its integral vented diaphragm lets the reservoir equalize pressure and breathe as the fluid level gradually drops with brake pad wear, while the sealing lip forms the primary barrier that keeps water out of the hydraulic system. Since brake fluid readily absorbs moisture, a cracked, brittle, or warped cap lowers the fluid boiling point and can cause a spongy brake pedal or a brake fluid warning lamp. This part belongs to Ford's 2162 reservoir cap family and is included with the reservoir tank on original assemblies. Drivers fit this genuine Motorcraft cap when the factory cap is damaged, no longer seals, or is missing, restoring the correct airtight yet self-venting closure that shields the master cylinder and ABS components from contamination. Confirm the underside diaphragm is intact and the reservoir neck is clean before installation for a proper seal.
