  This genuine Ford housing carries the variable camshaft timing solenoid and its oil control passages on Ford's 3.5L and 3.7L DOHC V6, seated against the driver left cylinder head. It seals and locates the camshaft phaser oil feed so the engine control module can advance and retard valve timing on demand, delivering a smooth idle, responsive throttle, and clean emissions. As this housing or its seal wears, oil pressure to the cam phaser drops and drivers notice a cold-start rattle from the front of the engine, an unstable or rough idle, sluggish acceleration, and variable valve timing fault codes such as P0010, P0011, P0020 or P0021, usually with a check engine light and a little oil weeping at the head. Left-hand bank placement is important because the passenger side is a different part number. Ford lists this piece under the housing callout, and it fits the 2007-2010 Edge and Lincoln MKX plus other 3.5L and 3.7L V6 vehicles including Flex, Taurus, Fusion, MKS and MKT. Installing a genuine Ford unit returns proper oil control and timing accuracy to the valvetrain. Replace the mating seal, wipe the sealing surface clean, and torque the fasteners to Ford specification during the repair.
