• Description:

  This genuine Ford Motorcraft air-conditioning compressor clutch is the electromagnetic engagement assembly that mounts on the nose of the A/C compressor and drives it from the accessory belt only when cooling is commanded. It fits 2008 to 2012 Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner models with the 2.3L and 2.5L four-cylinder engines and includes the clutch, disc, hub, pulley and field coil as a complete unit. When the climate control energizes the coil, the magnetic field pulls the front plate into the spinning pulley so the compressor turns; when cooling is off, the pulley freewheels on its bearing and the compressor stays idle. A failing clutch produces no cold air even though the compressor and refrigerant charge are good, a loud bearing growl or rattle from the front of the compressor, a burnt smell from a slipping or scorched friction surface, a loud clunk as the clutch cycles, or a coil that no longer pulls the plate in at all. Because a seized pulley bearing can throw or shred the accessory belt and a slipping plate can overheat, timely replacement protects the rest of the front-end drive. Set the correct air gap between the plate and pulley on installation, verify the coil receives voltage when the system is switched on, and inspect the belt, tensioner and compressor bearing at the same time. Installing the correct Motorcraft clutch and pulley restores dependable air-conditioning engagement.
