This is the genuine Ford fuel filler neck seal, listed by Ford as a Cover - Dust seal, for the 2008-2012 Escape and Mercury Mariner. It fits around the fuel filler neck where the neck passes through the body panel, sealing the opening so road dust, water, and debris stay out of the filler pocket and away from the neck and cap area. Keeping this gap sealed helps protect against corrosion and contamination around the fuel fill point. Buyers replace this seal when the original rubber has hardened, cracked, torn, or fallen out, leaving a gap that lets dirt and moisture collect around the filler neck or causes wind noise and rattles near the rear quarter. As a small but often-overlooked OEM piece it restores the clean, weathertight fit of the factory installation.
