This Motorcraft accessory drive belt idler pulley is a genuine Ford component that guides and maintains tension on the serpentine belt as it wraps the engine's accessory drive, keeping the belt aligned across the alternator, air conditioning compressor, power steering pump and water pump. It rides on a sealed ball bearing and turns freely with the belt, so a worn or dry bearing is a common source of engine-bay noise. It fits 2008-2013 Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner, Focus, Fusion and Mercury Milan, and Transit Connect with the 2.3L and 2.5L Duratec four-cylinder, mounted in the upper front idler position. Typical failure symptoms include a persistent squeal, chirp, grinding or rattle from the front of the engine, belt wobble or slippage, and a pulley that spins roughly or wobbles by hand. Replace the idler whenever a worn accessory belt is serviced and confirm smooth rotation and correct alignment on installation.
