Genuine Ford Motorcraft spark plug, the production-revised SP-509 variant identified as HJFS-24FP-X with the brown direct ignition coil boot, for 08-14 Ford applications including F-150, F-250 Super Duty, F-350 Super Duty, Expedition, Explorer, Explorer Sport Trac, Mustang, and Navigator with the 4.6L 3-valve, 5.4L, and 6.8L modular engines, in service from a late-07 production cutover. This is the redesigned plug that addresses the well-known broken plug issue on the 3-valve Triton engines where the original two-piece plug design would seize in the head and shear during removal. The brown coil boot is the visual indicator that the plug uses the revised single-piece design and the corresponding boot geometry. The plug is sold individually so a full set can be assembled in the correct amount for the application. Use the manufacturer-published removal procedure with penetrating oil and the correct soak time when servicing high-mileage engines.
