The module combines the electric fuel pump, the in-tank strainer, the fuel level sending unit, and the tank-top mounting flange into a single serviceable unit that draws fuel from the tank and delivers it at the pressure and volume the engine management system demands across all operating conditions. The sending unit float and resistor report the level in the tank so the dash gauge reads accurately. When this assembly wears out, drivers commonly experience extended cranking or a no-start condition, hard starting when the tank is low, stalling or hesitation under load or during hot-weather restarts, a loss of power at highway speed, and a persistent whining or buzzing from the tank area as the pump strains.
