This is the genuine Ford automatic transmission shift control cable for the 2009 through 2019 Ford Flex, the flexible steel cable that links the floor or column shift lever to the transmission manual control lever so that moving the gear selector actually rotates the shift shaft on the transmission and selects Park, Reverse, Neutral, or a drive gear. It routes from the shifter mechanism down to the transaxle and translates lever motion into precise detent positions. Over years of use the cable ends wear, the plastic bushings crack, or the inner cable stretches and binds, which shows up as a shifter that feels loose or sloppy, a selector that will not line up with the gear on the indicator, difficulty getting the vehicle out of Park, or a mismatch where the dash shows one gear but the transmission is in another. A failing cable can also prevent the brake shift interlock or the starting safety switch from behaving correctly. As the correct Ford part it arrives with the proper end fittings and grommets to seat into the factory brackets without modification.
