Although some dealer catalogs mislabel this base number as a vapor canister purge valve, the part is functionally an oil and air separator: it sits in the positive crankcase ventilation circuit and removes suspended oil mist from blow-by gases before they are routed back into the intake, returning the separated oil to the crankcase and sending cleaner vapor forward. On a boosted engine this keeps oil out of the intercooler and charge-air system, limiting intake carbon buildup and oil consumption.
