• Description:

  This genuine Ford A/C evaporator expansion valve, cataloged by Ford as the Valve Assembly - Evaporator Expansion, meters high-pressure liquid refrigerant into the evaporator core on the 2011-2013 Ford Explorer. Often called a TXV or thermal expansion valve, it creates the pressure drop that lets the refrigerant boil and absorb heat inside the HVAC case, and it modulates flow based on evaporator temperature so the system delivers steady cold air without flooding or starving the core. Drivers typically replace it when the air conditioning blows warm or only intermittently cold, when the evaporator freezes and then thaws, when a hissing or gurgling comes from behind the dash, or when the compressor short-cycles because the valve has stuck open or clogged with debris. It installs at the evaporator inlet inside the HVAC housing and seals with fresh O-rings. Because opening the sealed system exposes it to moisture, the receiver-drier desiccant should be renewed and the system evacuated and recharged to the correct R-134a specification after installation. Confirm your build date, as later Explorers use a superseding valve.
