  This is the genuine Ford tailgate molding for Super Duty pickups equipped with the factory Flex Step tailgate step, cataloged in the rear position and finished in black. Ford lists it under base number 9940602 with the catalog names Tail Gate Molding, Tailgate Molding and Molding, described for the 6 3/4 foot box with tail gate and Flex step. It supersedes the earlier 8C3Z-9940602-BA. The molding is the black center trim panel that caps the top of the tailgate and houses the recess through which the integrated step and grab handle deploy. It protects the sheet metal edge of the tailgate from scuffing when loading, seals the step mechanism opening against water intrusion, and provides the finished appearance surface that the step folds into.
