  This genuine Ford handle base is the rear driver-side (left-hand) exterior door handle base reinforcement for 2011 through 2019 Ford Explorer, listed by Ford as Exterior Door Handle Base, Reinforcement, Rear Left. It is the structural backing that mounts inside the rear-left door skin and anchors the outside door handle, spreading operating loads so the handle pulls firmly and the door latch releases cleanly. Owners replace it when the original base has cracked or broken, when the outside handle has gone loose, sloppy or pulled away from the door, or when the handle no longer opens the door reliably because its mounting point has failed. Because it carries the pull load every time the door is opened, a fractured base is a common Explorer failure. The reinforcement mounts behind the handle in the factory location for a direct fit.
