• Description:

  This Motorcraft engine coolant thermostat regulates coolant flow to bring the engine up to temperature quickly and maintain a stable operating range for efficient combustion, proper emissions behavior, and reliable cabin heat. It serves 5.0L V8, 2.7L and 3.0L EcoBoost, and 3.0L Power Stroke diesel applications and is supplied with its housing or water manifold as an integrated service assembly, fitting late-model Ford F-150 trucks from the 2011 model year forward. The thermostat remains closed during warm-up so coolant circulates only through the engine, then opens near its calibrated set point to admit radiator flow. When it sticks open the engine runs persistently cold, hurting fuel economy and heater output and often setting a coolant-temperature code, while a stuck-closed thermostat lets temperature climb fast, risking boil-over, warped heads, and gasket failure. Age, sediment, and a weakened wax element are typical causes of failure. Install the assembly against a clean sealing surface with fresh coolant, then bleed the system so the thermostat opens on the first cycle.
