• Description:

  This Motorcraft engine coolant thermostat controls warm-up and operating temperature on Ford's 3.3L, 3.5L, and 3.7L V6 engines, including 3.3L gas and hybrid applications, staying closed while the engine is cold so coolant circulates through the block and then opening at its calibrated set point to admit radiator flow and hold a steady temperature. It is supplied with its thermostat housing as an integrated assembly and serves late-model Ford F-150 and Explorer and related V6 applications from the 2011 model year forward. Accurate temperature control supports fuel economy, emissions readiness, heater output, and, on the hybrid, correct coordination of engine and electric operation. A thermostat stuck open leaves the engine running cold with weak heat and a possible insufficient-warm-up code, while one stuck closed causes rapid overheating, coolant loss, and potential cylinder-head or gasket damage. Age, sediment, and a fatigued wax element are common causes of failure. Install the assembly against a clean sealing face, refill with the specified coolant, and bleed trapped air so it opens on the first heat cycle.
