• Description:

  This Genuine Ford ML3Z-6K254-A is the secondary engine timing chain tensioner, also catalog-named cam-to-cam adjuster, for 11-25 F-150 and Mustang applications equipped with the 5.0L Ti-VCT Coyote or 5.2L Predator V8 engines. The tensioner mounts at the upper cam-to-cam timing chain location and applies hydraulic pressure against the chain through its plunger and guide shoe, keeping the secondary chain taut as it transfers rotation from the intake cam to the exhaust cam on each cylinder bank. Owners replace this tensioner when a cold-start chain rattle from the top of the engine traces to a collapsed plunger that has lost its hydraulic load, when a timing chain service includes preventive tensioner replacement to address known failure mode of the original spring or plunger, when a stretched secondary chain forces the tensioner to its extension limit and the chain skip drops the cam timing, or when a P0016 or P0017 cam-correlation DTC traces to a tensioner failure. Installation requires the valve cover to be removed, the cam-to-cam chain to be relieved of tension, the tensioner unbolted with the plunger first held back with a pin, and the new tensioner installed in the locked position before the pin is released to apply tension.
