  This is a genuine Ford Motorcraft engine oil filter, listed under the QFL service number as an oil filter element. It mounts in the engine oil filter housing and continuously cleans the circulating oil, trapping the fine metallic debris, soot, and dirt that collect between services. By holding the oil clean, the element shields bearings, the oil pump, camshaft lobes, and other precision surfaces from premature wear and helps the lubrication circuit maintain consistent pressure. The cartridge element is replaced together with its sealing gasket so the filter cap reseals correctly against the housing body. Owners service this filter at each scheduled oil change, and sooner if oil pressure becomes unstable, if the engine develops a ticking noise pointing to oil starvation, or if the old element is found torn, dirty, or bypassing. A neglected filter eventually restricts oil flow and pushes unfiltered oil past the bypass valve to the bearings, shortening engine life.
