It meters pressurized engine oil to the camshaft phaser so the powertrain control module can advance or retard cam timing on demand, optimizing power, fuel economy, idle quality, and emissions across the rpm range. Ford lists this base under the catalog name Solenoid, Engine Variable Timing. This -C suffix is the application for the 2012-2018 Ford Focus 2.0L naturally aspirated engine and is engine-code specific. It is NOT interchangeable with the CM5Z-6M280-G solenoid used on the 1.0L EcoBoost, so confirm your engine before ordering. Typical failure symptoms include a rough or unstable idle, a variable valve timing rattle or tick on start-up, hesitation, reduced fuel economy, and stored trouble codes such as P0010, P0011, or related camshaft timing over-advanced or performance faults that trigger the check engine light.
