A failing master cylinder typically announces itself through a soft or sinking brake pedal, a pedal that slowly drops under steady foot pressure, uneven or reduced braking, or fluid weeping around the booster mating surface and reservoir seals. Internal seal bypass can also trigger the brake warning lamp and a spongy feel that bleeding will not cure.
