This is the genuine Ford transfer case (power take-off / PTU) assembly for 2014-2020 all-wheel-drive Fusion, Escape, and Lincoln MKZ vehicles with the transverse 2.0L application. The power take-off unit bolts to the transaxle and splits engine torque to the rear driveshaft, using an internal gearset and clutch pack to send drive to the rear axle so the AWD system can react to wheel slip. A failing PTU typically announces itself with a whine or growl that rises with speed, a shudder or clunk on acceleration, burnt-smelling or metal-laden fluid, or lost rear drive after internal bearing or gear damage, often traced to overheating from a neglected fluid change or a leaking input shaft seal. Replacing the complete assembly restores proper rear-axle engagement and quiet AWD operation.
