It routes fuel vapor between the evaporative storage canister and the related emissions components, sealing the pathway that captures and controls fuel tank vapors so they are burned in the engine rather than vented to the atmosphere. A cracked, hardened, or leaking hose, or a stuck blocking valve, commonly triggers an illuminated check-engine light with evaporative emissions or small-leak fault codes, a fuel odor, or a failed emissions test.
