  This is the genuine Ford air bag clock spring, cover and contact plate assembly for 2015-2019 Ford Focus and Escape models equipped with a heated steering wheel. The clock spring is a coiled flat-ribbon conductor that lives behind the steering wheel and maintains continuous electrical contact between the fixed steering column and the rotating wheel through its full lock-to-lock travel. It carries the driver air bag firing circuit plus the horn, cruise, audio, and steering-wheel switch signals, and this heated-wheel variant adds the extra circuits that feed the wheel heating element. A failing clock spring most often shows up as an illuminated air bag warning light with a stored restraint DTC, an inoperative horn, dead steering-wheel controls for cruise or audio, or a heated wheel that no longer warms, and in some cases a clicking or grinding felt through the wheel when turning. Because the ribbon conductor is a wear item that can crack or fray with age and steering cycles, a clean intermittent fault in these circuits usually points here.
