• Description:

  This is the genuine Ford rear leaf spring axle U-bolt for the 2015-2020 F-150, catalog name U-Bolt. The U-bolt wraps over the rear axle tube and clamps the axle to the leaf spring pack, locking axle position and pinion angle so drive and brake torque are transferred cleanly through the spring to the frame. It is a highly loaded clamping fastener, and its clamp force is what keeps the axle from shifting on the springs. A stretched, corroded, cracked or under-torqued U-bolt, or one loosened after a spring or lift change, allows the axle to move on the spring, which shows up as a clunk on acceleration or braking, axle wrap and hop, changed pinion angle with driveline vibration, or a rear that tracks off center. Because these are torque-to-yield clamping fasteners that stretch when tightened, U-bolts and their nuts are single-use and must not be reused once removed; always install new U-bolts and torque them evenly in the correct sequence to Ford specification with the suspension supported at ride height. Inspect the spring seat, axle pad and nuts, and re-check torque after initial driving.
