Cataloged by Ford as a shifter assembly and shaft gear change, it transfers the driver's hand motion at the shift knob down into the transmission shift rails to select each gear. A worn or damaged lever produces vague, notchy, or sloppy shift feel, difficulty finding gears, excessive stick play, or a shifter that will not settle into a stable neutral.
