This is a genuine Ford front brake hose assembly used on Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX vehicles. The hose carries brake fluid from the fixed steel brake line on the chassis to the moving caliper at the wheel, allowing the hydraulic pressure from the master cylinder to apply the caliper piston. Common failure modes include external bulging or ballooning when the brakes are applied (a sign of internal layer separation), cracking and weather checking of the outer rubber jacket, internal collapse that restricts fluid flow and causes a wheel to drag or release slowly, and corrosion at the steel fitting. Symptoms include uneven braking pull, dragging brake on one wheel, soft or spongy pedal feel, and visible fluid weeping at the fitting. Ford service procedures call for inspecting brake hoses at every brake service and replacing them in pairs (both fronts together) when one shows wear.
