This genuine Ford oil separator, also carried in the Ford catalog as a vapor canister purge valve assembly, is the crankcase ventilation oil/air separator fitted to the 2.3L EcoBoost turbocharged engine in the 2016 through 2018 Focus RS from the 11/09/2015 build date forward. The separator sits in the positive crankcase ventilation circuit and removes suspended oil mist from blow-by gases before those vapors are returned to the intake to be reburned, protecting the intercooler and intake tract from oil fouling and helping maintain proper crankcase pressure. When the internal baffles or the integrated regulating valve fail, drivers commonly see excessive oil consumption, oil pooling in the charge-air plumbing, a whistling or hissing vacuum leak, rough idle, and stored crankcase-related trouble codes. Replacing a cracked housing or a stuck valve restores correct crankcase evacuation and prevents oil from being drawn into the boost system. This is the Ford-engineered assembly for the 2.3L turbo application and installs in the factory location using the original routing. Inspect the connecting hoses and grommets during installation and replace any that are hardened or split so the ventilation system seals correctly.
