  This genuine Ford transfer case, also referred to in the Ford catalog as the power take-off unit, is the all-wheel-drive component fitted to the 2016 through 2018 Focus RS with the 2.3L EcoBoost engine and built to the earlier production window ending 05/22/2017. Mounted to the transaxle, the unit takes drive from the transmission and redirects a portion of engine torque rearward through the propshaft to the rear drive module, enabling the RS all-wheel-drive system and its torque-vectoring behavior. Internal bearing wear, seal leakage, or gear damage produces whining or grinding noises that change with speed, driveline vibration, fluid leaks at the case, and in some cases loss of drive to the rear axle. Buyers typically need this unit after a fluid-starved failure, impact damage, or high-mileage bearing wear.
