This genuine Motorcraft A/C accumulator, also called a receiver drier or dehydrator assembly, part number YL-212, is the factory refrigerant accumulator for the 2016 through 2019 Ford Explorer with the 2.3L EcoBoost and 3.5L turbocharged engines. Installed on the low-pressure side of the air conditioning system, the accumulator stores excess liquid refrigerant, separates liquid from vapor so only vapor returns to the compressor, and contains a desiccant that absorbs moisture to protect the system from internal corrosion and acid formation. Built to original Ford specifications, it provides the correct port sizes, mounting, and desiccant capacity for this application. It is standard practice to replace the accumulator whenever the system is opened for major service or after a compressor failure, because contaminated or saturated desiccant can damage other components. Symptoms that point to accumulator trouble include reduced cooling, moisture or debris in the system, unusual noise, or repeated component failures.
