This genuine Ford castle nut, base number 00811, is a slotted retaining nut used in the chassis and driveline hardware of F-650 and F-750 medium-duty trucks. The castle nut threads onto a stud or axle component and, with a cotter pin passed through its slots and the cross-drilled fastener, locks positively so it cannot back off under vibration and load. Castellated nuts are used where a fastener must be set to a specific preload yet positively retained, such as steering, suspension and driveline connections. Owners and technicians need this nut when servicing a joint that uses a castellated fastener, when the original nut is corroded, damaged, or has had its slots distorted, or when reassembling a steering or suspension component that requires a fresh nut and cotter pin. Reusing a damaged castle nut can prevent proper preload or fail to retain the cotter pin. Manufactured to Ford specifications, it matches the original thread size, slot geometry and grade for the application. Torque the nut to specification, then advance only as needed to align a slot with the cotter pin hole, and install a new cotter pin to lock it. Confirm the correct application and thread size against the chassis diagram before ordering.
