  This genuine Ford vacuum tube routes engine vacuum to the front axle Integrated Wheel End (IWE) system on the four-wheel-drive 2017 through 2018 F-150, carrying the signal that engages and disengages the automatic locking front hubs. Under vacuum the IWE actuators disengage the front hubs for two-wheel-drive efficiency, and when vacuum is released the hubs lock so the front axle can drive the wheels; a cracked, collapsed, or leaking vacuum tube upsets that signal and is a leading cause of the grinding or roaring noise from the front hubs that F-150 owners commonly report. Symptoms of a failed line include loud front-end grinding on acceleration or when shifting into four-wheel drive, delayed or failed 4WD engagement, and hubs that stay partially engaged. Because the tube is exposed to underhood heat and road contamination it hardens and splits with age, allowing unmetered air into the system. This is the OEM vacuum line with the correct routing, length, and connector fit so it seals to the IWE solenoid and actuators without adapters.
