The master cylinder converts brake-pedal and booster input into hydraulic pressure, distributing fluid through the system to actuate the calipers at all wheels, and it includes the integral fluid reservoir. Common symptoms of a failing master cylinder include a brake pedal that slowly sinks to the floor under steady foot pressure, spongy or inconsistent pedal feel, internal fluid bypass, external leakage at the booster mating face, and unexplained loss of brake fluid. This unit replaces the earlier BRMC-242 and HC3Z-2140-B service numbers.
