The assembly combines the mechanical latch mechanism with the electric motor that operates the lock and unlock function from the chassis power lock circuit. Failure modes mirror those of the passenger-side unit: actuator motor failure that prevents lock or unlock, mechanical latch failure that affects door operation, connector corrosion that produces intermittent function, and broken internal linkages from age or cold-weather stress.
