This is a genuine Ford ignition coil boot for the 3.5L EcoBoost V6 engine used in 17-21 F-150, Expedition, and Lincoln Navigator vehicles. The coil boot is the rubber and insulator sleeve that connects the coil-on-plug to the spark plug terminal, sealing the spark plug well and conducting high-voltage current from the secondary coil winding to the spark plug. Over time the silicone rubber hardens, cracks, or develops carbon tracking and pinholes, which causes spark to leak to the cylinder head instead of jumping the plug gap. Symptoms include a rough idle, misfire codes (P0301-P0306), a tick or pop under hard acceleration, reduced fuel economy, and a check engine light. Ford recommends inspecting and replacing the boots whenever spark plugs are changed at the scheduled 60,000 mile service interval on the 3.5L EcoBoost. Replacement is straightforward but requires removing the engine cover and disconnecting the coil pack before pulling the boot from the plug well. This OEM boot includes the spring contact and silicone insulator at the correct dielectric rating for the 3.5L EcoBoost ignition system.
