- Description:
This is a genuine Ford differential carrier bearing cup for 17-22 F-250, F-350, F-450, and F-550 Super Duty rear differentials. The cup is the outer race of the carrier bearing and sits pressed into the axle housing or differential carrier housing, providing the precision rolling surface against which the bearing rollers turn. Common reasons for replacement include normal wear after high mileage, surface pitting from contaminated gear oil or lubrication failure, damage during a differential rebuild service when a bearing is replaced, and inspection during a rear axle service. Symptoms include humming or whining noise that changes with vehicle speed, play in the ring and pinion when checked through the inspection cover, metal particles on the drain magnet, and pitting visible on the bearing rollers indicating cup damage. Ford service procedures specify replacing the cup whenever the matching bearing cone is replaced, using a proper bearing race installer to press the new cup square in the bore, and following the carrier bearing preload setup procedure during reassembly.
