This Genuine Ford Under Hood Lamp, also cataloged as the Engine Compartment Lamp, fits 17-22 Ford F-250 SD, F-350 SD, F-450 SD, and F-550 SD trucks. The lamp mounts to the hood underside or to the underhood structure and provides task lighting at the engine bay when the hood is raised, activating from the hood-open switch or by manual control depending on the configuration. Replacement is common when the lamp no longer activates with the hood raised, when the lens or housing has been damaged during prior engine bay service, or when the harness has been pulled or pinched and the wiring is intermittent. Installation involves seating the lamp into its mounting clip or bracket and connecting the harness; some configurations route the harness alongside the hood release cable, so route the new lamp's wiring along the original path to avoid pinch points. After install, verify the lamp comes on with the hood raised, that it switches off with the hood closed, and that no underhood lighting fault has been stored.
